Help us get to SXSW EDU 2024!
In service of jumpstarting a conversation about school segregation and resource equity, we’ve submitted two proposals for SXSW EDU 2024, happening March 4-7 in Austin, Texas — and we need your help to make these panels a reality!
American education systems are at a tumultuous crossroads. K-12 math & reading scores have backslid, and the pandemic exacerbated long standing equity gaps. Meanwhile, rising costs and risky marketing schemes are eroding the promise of a college education.
The challenges facing K-12 and higher ed are poles apart, but precedent-setting litigation might be our secret weapon in the fight for educational equity from kindergarten through college. Panelists will discuss the ways that litigation can unlock stalled K-12 innovation while protecting students from innovation run amok in higher education.

2024 marks the 70th anniversary of Brown v. Board — yet schools remain as segregated as the 1960s, and we’re far from delivering on the promise of equal educational opportunity for all.
Where do we go from here? Should we be re-igniting efforts to end school segregation? Or investing more in primarily Black & minority-serving schools providing supportive experiences that affirm racial identity? Do we have to choose, or can we do both? Can separate ever be equal? Panelists will weigh strategies to disrupt the age-old American pattern of concentrating students of color in under-resourced schools.
